Conversations with a Sunflower

She told me “Face the sun
Follow it across the sky
And when the night begins to fall
Close your eyes and grace it bye”
She told me “Face the East,
The sun will rise once more
And when the darkness pitches black
Watch the horizon open its door.”
I did as she said
I am facing the sun
Following it across the sky
I see a darkness come
And will grace the sun with bye
And then I’ll face the East again
And trust the sun’s return
I’ll welcome the pitch black with faith
And will watch the horizon burn

The Long Road

It’s a long road
The road to healing
At times unpaved
We may get lost
Towards more scenic routes
Where the heart is burst open
And Sunrise shimmer with colors
So Sunsets can paint the sky
Finding our way again
With a surer self
Until we realize
It’s in the uncertainty
We feel at home
So, travel on
That long road.
But keep the heart open
And take your SELF along.

We Continue To Fail

img_5743

We continue to fail
We continue to fail decent moral standards
We fly our flags at half staff and mourn
Yet support the trigger
We scream loudly but do nothing in silence
We point to each other with blame
As bullets continue to fly
As bodies continue to drop
As futures continue to disappear
And as the sun rises tomorrow
Today will be a memory most of us forget
But some of us will forever remember
Because a heart felt close is gone
Because the sound of life being taken is deafening
But the rest of us will rest a while
Until another day arrives
To remind us all
Again
How we continue to fail

Everything

“I don’t come from much…”

You come from the dry desert
And summer rains
You come from tree canopies
And sun rays
You come from wild flowers
Through concrete
You come from daylight
At midnight’s arctic
You come from the color of leaves
In the hills of fall
You come from deep oceans
And the wave’s call
You come from thunder rolls
And lightning strikes
You come from the new moon
In the night sky

You, my beautiful one, come from
EVERYTHING

I AM YOU ARE

I am not here to teach you
Life will do that
I am not here to judge you
You will do that
I am not here to take from you
You will give that
I am here to see myself
In parts of you I discover
I am here to find myself
In parts of you I do not understand
I am here to heal myself
In parts of you I do not accept

You are not here to teach me
Life will do that
You are not here to judge me
I will do that
You are not here to take from me
I will give that
You are here to see yourself
In parts of me you discover
You are here to find yourself
In parts of me you do not understand
You are here to heal yourself
In parts of me you don’t accept

Deep Seeded

img_2239-1

A seed was planted long ago
Watered by the thinking
Some resentments hard to let go
Giving this seed living
Guiding its growth to the light
Pulled back by the darkness
Ego, hate, and selfish pride
Keeping this seed heartless
Time to go back to its roots
Find out what it needs
If we want to bear good fruit
Love and accept this seed.

Judge Me

img_2099-1

Judge the way I grow
Judge the way I shine
Judge me by my lack of grace
Judge my spoken mind
Judge the way I love
Judge me by my silence
Judge the way I lose myself
Judge all of my defiance

None of me is for you
When you judge
You judge you too

Hate…I See You.

Hate, I see your face
Fear. Fear of what is different
It’s the unknown you can’t take.

Hate, I see your eyes.
Tunnel visioned perceptions
The only colors, black and white.

Hate, I see your hands.
Balled up into fists
and drowning in quicksand

Hate, I see your heart.
Dying of a thirst you can’t
Cure yourself of

Hate, I see your mind.
Thinking with ignorant arrogance
Making your whole world blind.

Hate, I see your struggle.
It’s the absence of LOVE that’s got
You in trouble.
