Bootstraps

“Pick yourself up by your bootstraps”

Said the man in the golden seat.

The child looked down looking for straps

but only saw bare feet.

“Pick yourself up by your bootstraps”

Said the woman covered in pearls.

The man looked down, saluted the space

where his legs once felt the hurt.

“Pick yourself up by your bootstraps”

Said the pompous working grad.

The elderly lady looked down in shame

her memory had long gone bad.

“Pick yourself up by your boot straps”

I often hear THEM say

until THEIR straps are no longer there

and THEY begin to pray.

“Pick yourself up by your bootstraps.”

“But I was not born with any.”

“Well here, my friend, take my straps

and pass it along to many.”

“Remember, When You Point a Finger at Someone, There Are Three More Pointing Back at You” – Unknown

Written for and published in The Seeds 4 Life:

How easy it is for us to point at each other and criticize one another’s shortcomings, flaws, and wrong doings? How easy it is for us to point at each other and blame one another for our hurts and disappointments?

While we are blaming and criticizing others, we are forgetting one important fact: when we point the finger at someone, three of them are pointed right back at us.  They point back at us to remind us that regardless of who or what we may feel is responsible for our current state and situation, ultimately, the responsibility is ours. We have three times more control than the one we point our finger to. We also have three times more responsibility than the one we point our finger to.

They also point back at us to remind us, the imperfections we point out in others are also in us. When we are pointing at another’s shortcoming’s and flaws, we are only defining ourselves as intolerant and judgmental. Those three fingers pointed back at us reminds us to self-reflect and recognize, and accept our imperfections and shortcomings instead of pointing them out in another.

When we point our finger at the world, we give up control of where and what we are. This shifts responsibilities for our actions and reactions to others, when in fact, it is ours. We are responsible for our actions, as well as our consequences.  We can either be slaves to the belief the world is to blame or we can recognize we are powerful beings in this world, capable of creating love and positive change.

As Mahatma Gandhi once encouraged, “BE THE CHANGE.” This does not begin by pointing the finger, it begins by paying attention to the three pointed back at ourselves.

Fate

Is there such a thing as fate?

Something to just patiently await?

Is it written in the stars?

How this life will go from the start?

Are we born with this song complete?

And just march to life’s beat?

Is there an agreement already made?

Before we take on this crusade?

Once we take our first breath,

Is a date already set for death?

Do we hold it in our hands?

Lines in palms revealing plans?

Is it simple intuition?

Or in our closed eyed vision?

One of those questions to contemplate

Is there is such a thing as fate…..?

My Heart

The Heart Chakra
         The Heart Chakra

In my extended hand I hold

my unclothed heart for you to unfold.

Invite you in and have you see,

this beating heart, inside of me.

In this heart I hold all treasures,

infinite love and all life’s pleasures.

An open heart is what I give.

Compassionately and truthful, I try to live.

But imperfection also resides

in this unfolded heart of mine

A shadow side for you to uncover.

An honest heart you will discover.

There, you may find a lack of trust

of this world I find unjust.

You may find resentments stored,

and insecurities that I hoard.

You may find my judgments made,

and what makes my heart afraid.

You may find a lack of love,

and the anger I’ve tried to rid myself of.

But what is dark inside of me,

I share with you to be set free.

I hope this gift you will receive;

This heart of mine, upon my sleeve.

And like the light I see in you,

I also see the dark side too.

But now that you have my heart to hold

Allow your heart to begin to unfold.

The Garden

Vladimir Kush's Flower Life
Vladimir Kush’s Flower Life

Pick your intention and plant your seeds.

Is it ego or spirit the intention feeds?

With each sow, a story is born.

In each reap, an expectation is worn.

As this garden starts to grow,

“Where our mind goes, energy flows.”

Watering weeds or beautiful flowers,

What we nurture, choice is ours.

Did you choose to grow trees?

Grow so tall to see the seas?

Not only tall but deep in roots?

Strong and beautiful bearing fruits?

Did you choose to grow weeds?

Never planted any seeds?

Lacked the spirit fed intention?

With energy streaming towards lackluster attention?

If it’s picking from fruit bearing trees

Or cursing at the overgrowth of weeds;

As you reap what you have sown,

It’s from your intentions they have grown

Complacent

Salvador Dali's The Melting Watch
Salvador Dali’s The Melting Watch

Here I am, complacent
Watching others chasing dreams
With a curious inclination
Did they wait for all lights to turn green?

Here I am, complacent
Day to night, night to day
Is my purpose not so blatant?
Did I lose my way?

Here I am, complacent
Wondering should I take the plunge?
Is it fear that holds me impatient?
Should I just stop and lunge?

Here I am, complacent
Not complacent, just obsessed.
The universe knows intention
Note to self: TRUST THE PROCESS.

Karma

Salvador Dali's Geopolitical Child
Salvador Dali’s Geopolitical Child

It’s the “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,”

The uncovering of lies and exposing the truth.

It’s the “what goes around comes back around”

The waiting for what has gone up to come back down.

It’s  the “where the mind goes, energy flows”

What is focused on is what grows.

It’s the river that flows into the sea

Evaporating back up, raining down onto the trees.

It’s the reaction to another’s action

Revenge and hate, a blind distraction.

It’s the dying of ego to be reborn

The healing of a heart after it has been torn

It’s shouting into the dark and frightening cave

It’s the echo that returns with the message you gave

It’s the lovely cosmic law and order, Dharma

It’s the unbiased effect of the cause, Karma.
