“Emancipate Yourselves From Mental Slavery, None but Ourselves Can Free Our Minds” – Bob Marley

Written for and Published in The Seeds 4 Life

When we open our eyes to the world in the morning, what is the first thought that greets us? One of gratitude for another day? One of dread of the day ahead?

Whichever one greets us, is the one that sets the tone for the rest of our day.

As Buddha teaches, “we are what we think.” A thought is a variable action. An action which is dependent on us and our approach to it, and one we can change. A good day is dependent on good thoughts. Good thoughts are dependent on our thinking. Our thinking is dependent on the perspective we CHOOSE to see the world in.

Much like we choose how to react to our environment and the people around us. The CHOICE to choose a thought is our emancipation from mental slavery. We are free to think what we would like. We are the ones who water our gardens. We are the ones who feed the weeds or fertilize our beautiful flowers.

Life is sure to bring rain, but we may either dance in it or convince ourselves it will drown us.

Rose Bush

I planted a rose bush
So I may admire
the flowers that bloom
and the love that’s transpired
but from this rose bush
there are thorns that grow
thus, be humble when loving
the entirety of a rose

The Garden

Pick your intention and plant your seeds.

Is it ego or spirit the intention feeds?

With each sow, a story is born.

In each reap, an expectation is worn.

As this garden starts to grow,

“Where our mind goes, energy flows.”

Watering weeds or beautiful flowers,

What we nurture, choice is ours.

Did you choose to grow trees?

Grow so tall to see the seas?

Not only tall but deep in roots?

Strong and beautiful bearing fruits?

Did you choose to grow weeds?

Never planted any seeds?

Lacked the spirit fed intention?

With energy streaming towards lackluster attention?

If it’s picking from fruit bearing trees

Or cursing at the overgrowth of weeds;

As you reap what you have sown,

It’s from your intentions they have grown
