I Do Not Stand Alone

I do not stand alone
I stand with all that is behind me
I stand with what is yet to come
I stand with how they have defined me
I stand with all that I have won
I stand with strength that I have earned
I stand with love I have received
I stand with faith that I have kept
I stand with what I have believed
I stand with heart
I stand with soul
I stand with what it is I AM
I do not stand alone

Words of the Hero: “I Am My Fate” – Marty Rubin

Written for and Published in The Seeds 4 Life.

Circumstances may arise that will shake our world. These circumstances will be the earthquakes of our lives. They will come without warning and will wobble our world off of its axis. Some quakes, will shatter our lives so badly, we will have to rebuild. Some quakes, will shake us into realizations we may need in order to continue on living the life we intend to. We will be unprepared. We will be surprised.

In the unpreparedness, we may allow defeat to make a home inside of us. The reality of rebuilding after a crushing circumstance can seem impossible. It may send us into the abyss of seeing only the problem, completely blind to any solution and we will forget how to find our way out of this abyss.

In the surprise, we may allow fear to drive our ambition. The shock to our system of unforeseen circumstances may cause some anxiety in taking progressive steps toward our desired destination. We may rather be comfortable with fear paralyzing our efforts and standing still than risk taking steps forward.

However, circumstances are not presented to impede our stride towards the goal. They are presented to remind us of our capabilities, to pull us out of the comfort zone of the ordinary. To whisper to us to call upon the hero that is braver than any unexpected or overpowering circumstance, ourselves. We are the hammer in the rebuilding and the driver towards our destination. We are the heroes of our stories. We are the solution. We are the outcome. It is up to us. We can lay down in defeat, or get back up.

Fight

Between your ears, resides a place
A place where demons come to play
To pull you in to the abyss
Where only darkness seems to exist

In this darkness the voice speaks loud
Curses the light, invites in clouds
It brings in guilt, applauds the shame
Makes you feel small, calls you by name

There are many places you’ll try to hide
From this voice that lives inside
You’ll try to run away from this place
The place where demons come to play

And sometimes “friends” will come to your aid
Only to turn on you the next day
Leaving you there to pick yourself up
With empty bottles and a half poured cup

What if I told you it’s not real
How that voice tries to make you feel
What if I told you, demons die
When you look them right in the eyes

What if I told you in that place
There is a soul, it has your face
What if I told you, you possess
the power to bring this voice to rest

What I am telling you is true
The light is waiting to find you
No need to hide or run away
Open your eyes, turn night to day

So in this place, between your ears
There are no demons for you to fear
They are not real, they are not you
What that voice says is all untrue.

But if you dive and find yourself there
Breathe in courage, breathe out despair
Open your eyes, you’ll see the light
You’ll see your soul, your heart, your might.

Love yourself and go to war
With all the things invading your shores
Fight for your heart, fight for your life
Fight for the gift of being alive.

“Some Winds Take You Places, Others, They Remind You Why You Need Roots” – Kritika (Trigger the Wild)

Written for and Published in The Seeds 4 Life.

There are many days we step outside and allow the wind to play with our hair. It rushes through sky and trees to kiss our face. Some days we close our eyes and welcome it, and some days we cover our face and wish it away.

On the days we feel light and invite life to gift us with adventure, the winds will come and we will be packed and set to go. It will arrive with whichever direction we are willing to take and will carry us through a journey we have wished for ourselves.

On the days we feel burdened and need some space to be, it will arrive with a gust and test our strength. It will remind us of our roots and whisper to fear that it does not belong here. Because fear needs to realize, even the gust of a wind cannot shake what we have planted, and the gust of the wind will give us the space to prove just that.

Welcome the breeze, and welcome the gust. Depending on the days, they may take us on adventures or they may test our strength. Whichever arrives will be for our growth.

“Stop Getting Distracted by Things That Have Nothing to Do With Your Goals” – Unknown

Written for and Published in The Seeds 4 Life.

We set our sights and off we go to meet our goals. We focus on our destination, until the focus shifts to the odd noise coming from the motor, the bugs splattered on the windshield, and the static coming from the radio station. To shift our focus further, the gas light just came on to tell us it’s empty.

Our focus shift distracts us into attending to matters we have prioritized over the path toward our goal. That odd noise from the motor is the doubt we’ve allowed to creep into our head. It’s the people in our lives telling us we can’t do it. It’s the excuses we have started to makes as to why our goal is unattainable.

The bugs splattered on the windshield are the minor inconveniences we focus on and convince ourselves is blocking our view to the destination. It’s the rainy day without an umbrella or the missing the bus and foregoing waiting for the next one.

The static from the radio is the things we do on a daily basis that moves us no closer to our goal than yesterday. It is the unproductive habits. The sleeping in late, the habitual scrolling through social media, the watching too much television, the procrastination of what can be done today and telling ourselves “I’ll do that tomorrow.”

And with these distractions, comes wasted energy. Wasting so much energy, we sputter along to our goals on empty. Often times, breaking down in the middle of the road wondering where the time went. Fortunately, for many of us, it is during this breakdown we get out of the car and notice the motor is quiet, the radio static is off, and the bugs on the windshield no longer block our view.

It is then we realize, in the horizon, our goal is still there waiting for us. Distractions are loud, but our ambition will roar if we take the focus away from the things that beg for our attention but have nothing to do with our goals. So let’s get back in the car, turn the key, and focus shift.
