“Lose Some To Win Some…Story of a Champion” – Jay Z

Written for and Published in The Seeds 4 Life.

A champion. Someone to be admired. Usually a master at their craft and usually, that’s when we notice them – when they have mastered their craft.

We do not see the trial and errors. We do not see the failures. We do not see the 1000 times they fell and the 1001 times they got back up.

And before that 1001 times they got back up? Still a Champion. Because a Champion earns their badge by failing and trying again. They earn their badge by moving forward, using what happened yesterday as a PUSH towards their goal.  They do not sit idle waiting, they sit to REST when they need to.

A champion. In every struggle, in every failure. We get back up. Earn our badge. And still a Champion.

Forever My Friend-Ray LaMontagne

Who am I to tell her
Who am I to play god
Who am I to think I can go it alone
Something tells me girl this is bringing you down
Something tells me this is bringing me down
We’ve been through some changes
Always seem to hold on
Lately it feel like you can’t take anymore
Something tells me girl this is bringing you down
Something tells me girl this is bringing you down
Forever my friend
Forever my love
Forever the woman that I’m thinking of
I just think if we keep our hearts together
Just think if we build on this trust that we have for one another
Baby we can make this last a lifetime
Who am I to tell her
Who am I to play god
I don’t know just what’s for real anymore
Something tells me girl this is bringing you down
Something tells me girl this is bringing you down
Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right
Maybe it’s the last thing you want to hear me say
I just think if we keep out hearts together
I just think if we build on this trust that we have for one another
Maybe we can make this last a lifetime
Forever my friend
Forever my love
Forever the woman
That I’m thinking of
I just think if we keep our hearts together
I just think if we will build on this trust that we have for one another
Maybe we can make this last a lifetime

Dedicated to my tribe: “Someday We’ll All Be Free.”

Cover by Alicia Keys of Donny Hathaway’s Someday We’ll All Be Free (1973)

Hang onto the world as it spins around
Just don’t let the spin get you down
Things are moving fast
Hold on tight and you will last

Keep your self-respect, your (wo)manly pride
Get yourself in gear, keep your stride
Never mind your fears
Brighter days will soon be here

Take it from me someday, we’ll all be free, yeah

Keep on walking tall, hold your head up high
And lay your dreams right up to the sky
Sing your greatest song
And you’ll keep, going, going on

Take it from me someday, we’ll all be free….

Universo Ao Meu Redor-Marisa Monte

Tarde, já de manhã cedinho
Quando a nevoa toma conta da cidade
Quem pega no violão
Sou eu, sou eu
Pra cantar a novidade

Quantas lágrimas de orvalho na roseira
Todo mundo tem um canto de tristeza

Graças a Deus, um passarinho
Vem me acompanhar
Cantando bem baixinho
E eu já não me sinto só
Tão só, tão só
Com o universo ao meu redor

I have two weaknesses….

…Chocolate and a beautiful voice, playing an acoustic guitar, and singing resonating lyrics….

Hozier’s  cover of Van Morrison’s Sweet Thing

Lyrics:

And I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
And they’ll get high
On a bluer ocean
Against tomorrow’s sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
‘Hey, it’s me, I’m dynamite
And I don’t know why’
And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain.
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again.

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I will raise my hand up
Into the night time sky
And count the stars
That’s shining in your eye
Just to dig it all an’ not to wonder
That’s just fine
And I’ll be satisfied
Not to read in between the lines
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever
Grow so old again.
Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes
And your saint-like smile….

Clark Kent Love Letter

Twin Flames
Twin Flames

I lived in “Georgia on my mind” and you lived in “The Reason”.

The aftermath of our love story’s season.

In your quiet moments, as you wondered “…I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky, but why can’t it be mine?”

To you I would say, “I’m scared you’ll forget about me”,and allow my dreams to take me to where you would give me a sign.

In the mornings when I would wake, a “split screen sadness” would overwhelm’

“You do something to me that I can’t explain”, an unrecognizable realm.

So many years I spent spinning, trying to “let go and just let it be”

“everything that (I thought) was broken, leave it to the breeze.”

But “Something always brings me back to you.”

“No matter what I say or do”

And in the moments when I tried to make thoughts of you disappear,

I would “dig my toes into the sand…and wish that you were here.”

As selfish as my unspoken request may be,

please “Just say you’ll wait, you’ll wait for me.”

Although I never asked this of you

My wish was that WE, once again, would come true…….

“To see you when I wake up, is a gift I didn’t think could be real”

“To know that you feel the same, as I do, is a Three-fold utopian dream”

“My whole heart will be yours forever”

As we continue our “lifelong love letter”
